The job market improves across the Washington area

The D.C. metropolitan area added about 64,200 jobs in the one-year period ending in August after adjusting for seasonal changes, according to the latest government data. Unemployment in the District stayed flat at 6.8 for the second straight month, its lowest point since 2008 and a full percentage point lower than it was a year ago.
